Amber

Studio Host

A native of northeast Texas, Amber’s journey with rhythm, joy, and community began with ballet and jazz at 4, followed by competitive cheer and pom at the age of 8. Her love of movement snowballed over time with burgeoning interests in hip hop, afrobeat, classic Filipino dances such as Tinikling, and… well… whatever it’s called when you pause to jam out in the middle of a run! As a teacher and advisor, Amber has a particular interest in community formation. She is finishing her PhD at Berkeley, where her work is devoted to understanding how communion forms between girls and women, notably of the Caribbean and West African diaspora. Fittingly, the Dance Floor is the perfect place to see how some of those beautiful connections take place for all of us in the Bay Area, regardless of identity!

She is thrilled to greet you and dance with you as you find joy in both your movement and the moment. Do come chat with her at the desk; pet pictures are always welcome, as are family updates, coffee recommendations, new music, or the daily highs and lows!
